Back in the groove

Well thankfully we have managed to get back into a normal routine with the pups and what a lovely sight to see the pups back running around in the field, naturally I will not put them at risk if the elements are against them but for the time being it seems past us.
I had good reports from the schooling track about the Premier Fantasys, all six to be sent there have chased straight away and are mad keen according to Jane and Dave, all very well mannered and all in all they are very happy with the first crop of pups sent from here to them, by the way when I mention “Them” I mean Dave and Jane Houfton, they can be found at www.dunhamgreyhoundcentre.co.uk .
Droopys Lena’s first crop by Droopys Maldini are trialling in well, the two at Henlow are well inside grading and Big Chief at Lance Burfords had his first UK Trial after 3 months doing very little and clocked a very good 15.40 at Monmore on Tuesday, hopefully they all give their owners lots of fun, the other dog is still in Ireland and very pleasing on the eye.
Lenas second litter to Hondo Black are coming on a treat, due to the weather I feel the two younger litters are a couple of weeks behind but they will quickly make this up, they are however thriving and could not be much happier with them, check out the NEW Syndicates page for one of Lenas pups.
Baby Marges pups are doing well and they are very vociferous and outgoing, not a bad thing really as it means they are on the go, we still have one dog pup for sale at a ridiculously low price, check out For Sale page for details.
Miss Wonderfuls pups are doing very well and I am very pleased with them, whilst they are not the tallest pups they are very very stocky and showing me all I want to see at this stage, lets hope we can get a bit of luck with them. Ebony (Miss Wonderful) is the most placid greyhound you will see and does not have one single bad bone in her body, she loves nothing more than coming in the house to lie by the open fire.
We have put up new pictures of all the pups, these can be found within Galleries and we shall have a video of each set of pups early next week which I am sure you will enjoy.
We have also made available a new Tab at top of page, its going to be dedicated to current and future Syndicates, I know theres many people who would like to be involved in the ownership of a puppy from a young age but cannot afford the cost on their own, hopefully this may prove to be a service that can encourage new and old ownership into the sport.
On the subject of our sport, myself and Dave Firmager have been talking recently and both are of the same way of thinking that it is about time that our boards have incentives for people to buy British Bred Pups, we can do the job just as well as our counterparts over the water and perhaps if there were incentives in place,it may encourage more people to look at The British Breed.
I would like to see a £10,000 Comp every month of the Year, these could be placed throughout the country to allow everyone the opportunity to be involved, another idea would be Free or reduced registration fees, I am sure there would be many many other ideas from others and please feel free to drop me a line with anything questhousekennels@googlemail.com , who knows we might just be able to help ourselves by offering up suggestions to our board, this goes for everyone not just the perceived bigger breeders, I am also happy to chat on the phone should anyone like to, numbers on Home page.

New Droopys Lenas
11/09/09 18:19
I am pleased to announce that Droopys Lena has given birth to 5 Dogs and 5 Bitches, the sire is Hondo Black and I am really looking forward to rearing these, all went very well and Lena is providing beautifully for her babies, nice to see some colour put in the pups as it was getting a bit monotonous having black pups running around everywere.

Info Page
15/08/09 19:52
I would like to remind everyone that we have trial results, advanced cards and race results available from both Harlow and Coventry and these can be found by clicking the Info Tab on the bar at top of the page, we have tried to get other tracks on board but nobody else was forthcoming, if you would like to see your track details on here then please feel free to chat with your tracks Racing Manager and we will do whatever we can to help try and promote their track as well as providing the information owners and trainers would like to see.
Remember if the info was available online it would cut out many calls to racing offices and trainers.

Winners
28/05/09 11:49

I am pleased to say that I shall be placing a couple of young pups in with Mark Wallis next week who initially look promising, time will tell us how they get on but I know they will at least be given a chance. My bitch at Charlie Listers has had her first trial back from season and was satisfactory, once again I know she is in the right hands to get everything out of her.
I have another couple of nice looking pups that shall be starting schooling shortly, fingers crossed they run as well as they look.
Good reports on The Ballymac Maeve x Millies Award pups from Ireland and it sounds like they could be pretty decent, fingers crossed for them and their owners.
The Jazz Hurricane x Droopys Kewell pups have had their first handslip and all chased well, that is all you want to see and hear at that stage and it is at least a platform to be going to war with.
Recent winners are Got Any Gossip x2, Revengeful Demon x2, Smoking Shady and Smoking John at Hove, Bluechip Me at Oxford, Andreas Quest at Newcastle,Bonnie Ben and Pendle Whojo at Crayford, Questhouse Leigh at Monmore, Questhouse Katie x2 at Pelaw Grange,Wigmore Bomber at Henlow, Oxford Don at Nottingham.
This brings the Kennel winners to 734 in 4 years.
Can I also direct people to our Harlow Page that highlights the upcoming Auction Items available at this coming Sundays(31st May) Charity meeting in Aid of Great Ormonde Street Hospital for Children.
Gone, in the click of a finger
26/05/09 11:36
Your brood drops in season and it is straight on the phone to arrange a mating, roughly 2 weeks go by and your bitch is mated and returned to you.
On return it is a case of caring for the bitch with the correct intake of food and hoping that she has got pregnant, at around 20/23 days most bitches go off their food, this would normally last for 3-4 days and it is 1 of the first signs you want to see as it generally means they are pregnant.
Making sure the bitch gets the required intake of food you just have to sit back and hope that all goes well, on day 40 of her pregnancy I start worming the bitch with Panacur 10%, this would be done on a daily basis right through to 3 days after she has given birth and the dosage is a quarter of her body weight in mls(eg: 30kg = 7.5mls).
At this stage I personally increase the protein intake to as much as 5lb a day, depending on what else she will or will not eat, to me this is vital in the production of milk and it is also vital to get Calcium supplement into them.
Hopefully everything has went smoothly and on day 62 she should go off her food completely and start “Nesting”, at this stage some bitches can become very very destructive but have no fear as it can be quite normal and is just her getting herself prepared for giving birth to her little ones, all being well the bitch will have a healthy litter and the pups will suckle straight away, I always make sure I have a Milk supplement to hand just incase the bitch has very little milk on or it is a big litter, no good not having it at 1am which would be the usual time most bitches start having them.
So the fun begins and make sure the bitch is taking in lots of liquids and a very high protein intake as these will help her milk production.
The pups eyes normally start opening around 10 days old and at 2 weeks old I start worming the pups with Drontal Puppy and when worming I clip their nails as this makes life a little easier for the bitch, the worming would be done at 2-4-6-8-10 and 12 weeks old.
The subject of weaning and getting pups away on solids has varying opinions, some like to start them on solids at as young as 3 weeks old but for me personally, and it is all about personal preferences, If the bitch has lots of milk and is very happy to be feeding her babies, I much prefer to let the pups just feed on mum till they are around 5 weeks if possible, nothing and I mean nothing can substitute the bitches milk.
When I do start them on solids it would generally be with Farleys Rusks and Goats milk and the likes of Semolina etc, I have found through time that Goats milk is much kinder to their guts and they are not as loose on that.
When able to take heavier solids I use the likes of Raw Beef, Cooked Chicken, Live Natural Yoghurt, Puppy Biscuit both soaked and Dry, Eggs, Calcium Phosphate and Multi Vitamin Supplement, I will also put in some uncooked Marrow Bones at around 7 weeks old for them to chew on.
At 8 weeks old they will receive their first inoculations and this will be repeated at 10 weeks old, I only use veterinary surgeons for this.
At 12 weeks old the pups will get earmarked, this is over within a second and is not harmful to them.
So now that we have built the foundations to build on the work starts in earnest and the joys of watching them grow into fully fledged racing machines is fantastic, their characters changing month by month and at times absolutely doing your head in, however we would not change it for the world.
The main stay of my pups diet is Raw Beef and I use close on off 2 tonne per month, the biscuit I use is Chudleys Racer, they will also receive Raw Eggs, Multi Vitamins, Goats Milk, Cheese, Fish and Chicken.
At between 12-18 months old the pups shall be schooled, this is when your dreams keep on living or they are shattered,
Assuming that all goes well, the pup shall be placed in with their respective trainer and thus the fun “Should” begin, however they are at the mercy of the Racing Managers and this is where a pups career can be finished at the “Click of a finger”, having had quite a few pups graded I see varying degrees of grading and I must say that on the whole they do a fair job with a special mention to Chris Page(Ex W/Stow), Monmore,Crayford,Wimbledon and Peter O Dowd at Romford but there are a couple of tracks that are very hard on pups and due to this they can quite easily sour a pup and all the hard work that has went in the previous 18 months can be done for nothing, I wish they would take this into consideration instead of worrying about whether their bookmakers lose any money, WHY they have such a phobia about pups winning first time of asking is beyond me and they should be encouraging pups to win as they are their tracks future, watching this is very hard for me and I cannot help but get angry.
I sincerely wish everyone all the best with their dogs, this sport can be absolutely fantastic if given a chance and I hope that we can get it back to the good old days.

Useful Info now available
22/05/09 01:34
You may have noticed a couple of new editions to our topic bar, this includes Race Info that we are happy to announce that Wimbledon. Harlow and Coventry have decided to let us host their trial results which will hopefully aid owners and mean less phone calls for many trainers and racing offices, it is my aim to have every track showing trials etc online wether it be on their own website or on mines.
The other new Topic is Transporters, not fully completed as yet but we hope within the next 2 weeks to have all the relevant info online that should help many people in the sport as well as the transporters, You will see from the first couple online that we want pictures of the transporter themselves, this will allow anyone using the transporter for the first time to know who they are meeting, we have also provided a Rough guide to the normal route they would take, obviously it is always worthwhile asking for any type of job required.
I aim to be providing another useful service for many in the sport.
For the record there is absolutely no money involved for any of these services, all the online work is done for free and hopefully helps the sport in some small way.

Spring Cleaning
25/04/09 12:15
After the dreadful winter we endured it is refreshing to be able to get the kennels looking something like they should be.
I like to paint all the huts, kennels etc every year in order to preserve their life as well as keeping the place looking fresh and tidy, due to my family problems last year and the non stop rain, I never got round to doing this, the last week though has seen me make up for this with non stop painting and general tidying up, I have also become quite an accomplished gardener and must say it is looking spot on, no doubt I have let myself in for trouble.
I am in the middle of this months Video shoots and must apologise for the delay as the original one boomed out on me, I am however putting together something that should allow you to picture what surroundings I am living in, here is the River Whiteadder which is minutes from the kennels, this is great for trout and salmon fishing.

In the kennels I must say that I am very very happy with all the pups and how they all look, collectively they must go down as the nicest bunch of pups I have had at any given time, this includes the Jazz Hurricane and Millies Award pups that recently left, if looks win races then I will have a storming 2010.
Talking of Millies Award, I hear that 2 of her March 07 pups to Ballymac Maeve have instantly went well at The schooling track, to the point where an offer was made for the dog first time around the track, fingers crossed they go in the right direction, Millies Premier Fantasy pups are Big boned and got a lovely temperament .
Jazz Hurricanes pups to Westmead Hawk are doing grand and very very lively, the older Hawk pups here are the noisiest pups I have ever had but I don’t see that as a bad thing as it shows they at least have life.
Monday is going to very tough as it is a year to the day that I lost my mum and I have sponsored a race at Nottingham in her name and myself and my father shall be popping down, I must say that Dave Baldwin has been first class in looking after me and I can safely say that it will not be my last time sponsoring at Nottingham, it really is refreshing to see both Nottingham and Wimbledon go out of their way to look after sponsors.
Recent winners include Lenn Swartz, Bellpac Philly and Andreas Quest at Newcastle, The Last Baby(Twice) and Regale Savana at Hove, Shimano Sumo at Henlow, Opening Quest at Wimbledon and Bonjour Paula and Oxford Don at Nottingham.
This brings the kennel winners to 710 which I am very proud of, yes it may not be 710 Top Class winners but each and every winner means alot to me and heres hoping there are many many more to come.
In closing I would like to Thank everyone for visiting my website and I hope that between myself and Dave(Website designer) that we are providing what you want to see and PLEASE do not be afraid to let us know if there is anything that you would like to see, if it is possible then it can happen.

Shelbourne/Wimbledon/Shawfield
16/04/09 20:02
A good idea from Andy Reid was to include Shawfield in the comparisons photo, we now have all the tracks that host a Derby, the outcome appears to be that Shelbourne has bigger bends and bigger straights than both Shawfield and Wimbledon.
Shawfield has much longer straights than Wimbledon but its bends are markedly tighter than the London circuit. With this arial view it is plain to see why some dogs are suited to certain tracks than other. College Causeway types for Shelbourne and the Fear Zafonics for Wimbledon maybe.

Ticking Over

I just said goodbye to Jazz Hurricanes Kewell pups last Sunday, they have went to Ockendon schooling complex where I am sure Tom Prenderville will do a sterling job, I really like the look of these pups and pray to god that they are decent for their owners.
1 Of Millies Awards pups went on her travels to Sweden last week, Frida, the pups new owner, is owning a greyhound for the very first time, I know shes very excited at bringing the pup up and I sincerely wish her all the best, perhaps later down the line we can get a little journal from Frida.
All the other pups here are doing very well and I especially like the Westmead Hawk pups, they are very very firey and have an abundance of energy and at this stage I could not be any happier with them.
My weekly advert in The Racing Post is doing its job nicely with weekly enquires over Final Rose, as well as others, my first choice sire when Rose drops in season is Larkhill Jo followed by Droopys Maldini, I have also decided that Ballymac Maeve shall be the sire for Baby Marge when she breaks in season.
My upcoming Charity night is beginning to take shape, still 3 Race sponsors short and numerous Dog sponsors left but i’m sure it will all be pulled together come 11th July.
Recent winners on the track include Sugar Fix, Ashbys Hawk, Smoking John and Ebony Chaser twice at Hove, Good To Go at Wimbledon, Lenn Trois, Bellpac Philly and Andreas Quest at Newcastle, Shimano Cypo at Henlow, Questhouse Katie at Pelaw Grange, Bluechip Me at Oxford, Pendle Whojo, Quest Daily Dogs and Bonnie Ben at Crayford, Dickos Mark at Sheffield and Pretty Mentor twice at Romford.

Relatively Quiet on the Western front
20/03/09 16:30
Very quiet week in the kennels what with the previous weeks antics with Jazz and her pups, she is doing absolutely grand as are her puppies, new pictures taken yesterday are now on her webpage.
The weather (At Last) seems to have turned for the better and it has allowed me to get things done that could not be done whilst we had so much rain, never thought I would be so happy to mow the grass but it does make the place so much neater.
Plans are going on for the proposed upcoming Charity Night and very kind sponsorship from Simon Wooder and Dave Shallows has helped get us started, obviously we are in need of other sponsors, so please, any help is appreciated.
I have also agreed sponsorship of a race at Nottingham Stadium on Monday 27th April, this will be held in memory of my mum who died last year on this date and I can only say that Dave Baldwin has been nothing but courteous as well as generous with a Complimentary Table in the Restaraunt, it goes without saying that it is a day I am not really looking forward to but as long as I am able too, I will always keep my mums name alive.
Recent winners are as follows... Bellpac Philly, Wee Bad Boy and Lenn Swartz at Newcastle. Smoking Jim, Smoking John and Revengeful Demon at Hove and Dickos Marc at Sheffield

Movies Movies Movies!
16/03/09 08:35

We now have such a large collection of movies on the site that we have had to create new pages to organise them into. Generic movies will be staying on the main movie page but movies about specific broods and pups will get their own sub page, this should make it much easier to find the subject of your choice
All 3 of Jazz Hurricane’s whelping videos are now available to view click here
Macmillan Cancer Support Evening
14/03/09 15:33
Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium
Saturday 4th July
I am pleased to announce that myself and Wimbledon stadium have come to an agreement on a date for this years benefit night in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Macmillan nurses are invaluable to both Cancer sufferers and their families and virtually every household these days knows of someone that is effected by Cancer, now, more than ever, we need to support these nurses whos work sometimes go unnoticed but without them the patients and families would struggle.
Last years event at Hove was a huge success and raised £23,000 and a nights racing was had that was befitting of such wonderful people, lets see what we can achieve and remember that every little helps.
My aim is to have 11 Open races and 2 Graded stakes for the local racers, these would be lower graded fares thus giving these dogs the chance to strutt their stuff on the same stage as the bigger boys, this format was a raging success at Hove and had all the trainers and owners lavishing full praise.
Like last year, I am looking at £1,000 per race which would see a % go towards the Charity, this race sponsorship could be formed by more than 1 person, so PLEASE, if you would like to get involved, but you cannot afford the full amount, get in touch and we will work with you and your sponsorship, remember that there will be others like yourself that want to help and thus we can merge you all together.
We are also looking for individual Dog sponsors on the night, these are priced at £20 and all winning dog sponsors shall go into a draw for a fantastic prize that we shall announce very shortly.
We shall be holding an Auction live on the night with various items that are as yet unknown, these will initially be on offer online for people to bid on, last years auction was fantastic and I would strongly urge anyone visiting on the night to stay back for this as the Craic was unreal, should anyone like to donate anything for Auction then please contact myself.
I am awaiting a Package deal that will include admission and Meal in Restaraunt and once known I shall announce the details and how you can book it.
Many many thanks again for listening to me, I know for some it will be boring but I am determined to raise as much as I possibly can for people that in my eyes are Angels.
Time To Move
13/03/09 14:25
Yesterday we said goodbye to Millies Awards 2 Brindle boys and I will say that they are absolute stunners, the small lad is 72lbs and his brother is a paltry 82lbs and if looks could win you anything then these lads will do very well.

We also got in our Droopys Rosari and Millies Award Pups both to Premier Fantasy and I will get pictures of both litters on the site in the next couple of days, they have both settled in fine and appear very feisty and all grubbed up brilliantly.
A big Thank You to Ian and Michelle for bringing them up to this stage and for looking after both Millie and Rosari as well as my other brood Questhouse Lucy.
Jazz and pups are doing well and heres a picture of them taken last night(2 Days old), the birth went virtually perfect and makes life so much easier for Jazz, keep looking in at Galleries for regular updated pictures of these pups and the others.
We have loaded up a small video of the birth, this is in a couple of parts to make it easier loaded for Non Broadband users, we hope you enjoy it and hopefully it can help out others whelping down for the first time.
After discussions with Wimbledon Stadium, we shall be hosting their Trial Results from now on in, this should benefit the Wimbledon owners as well as trainers, and should take a bit of strain of the Racing Office as I know only too well that they get phoned regularly from owners asking how their dog trialled
Please don’t be afraid to add comments to any of the Blog Posts even if negative, it is how we can best evolve the site by knowing what makes the viewers happy.
Latest winners are Trejon Scholes at Perry Barr, Questhousae Leigh(twice) at Monmore, Shimano Cypo at Henlow, Oxford Don at Nottingham, Got any Gossip at Hove, Good To Go at Wimbledon and Wee Bad Boy and Lenn Trois at Newcastle.

A bit of shock tonight, Jazz Hurricane who is heavy in pup to Westmead Hawk and due to whelp on Wednesday, seemed nice and relaxed when I went out a little while ago to check on her....The next minute whilst watching the CCTV she moves postion on the whelping bed and bingo!!! its all action.
Here is the first picture of her first pup, a big beautiful bitch. I will post up more pics as they arrive through the night.

They are flying out, a black dog now followed by a brindle bitch

Mixed Emotions
02/03/09 08:12
Well it has been a very mixed time with emotions running in all directions, firstly we had the superb reaction to my mums invitational race at Wimbledon and I must say a Huge Thank You to all the connections for their eagerness to take part in this superb race, I am truly proud to have my mothers name alongside these fantastic animals and I know she would be revelling in the limelight herself, very sadly missed but will NEVER be forgotten.
Then a week ago my Hondo Black x Miss Wonderful dog pup injured his Stifle (pictured), just turned 10 months old I have sent him away, along with his sister, to be kept quiet and confined to the lead for 4 months, lets hope he can come back but it is an injury that you dread a pup getting.

Then on Friday Roger and Karin arrived from Switzerland to take Emily (Savana Highlands x Knockeevan Angie) home with them, this was both sad and happy, very sad to say goodbye to her as she holds a special place in my families lives but also very happy as I now know that Emily has a life that you can only dream of for a dog, Roger and Karin are the only people I would have asked to take Emily.
In return for getting Emily, Roger and Karin decided to cook Fondue for me, a bit on the rich side for me but we had a laugh whilst preparing and eating it, Karin was quite upset on leaving which was very touching and a friendship for life has been formed over the last 3 years.
The website also launched its advertising within the Racing Post last week, this advert shall run every week for the next year, I believe that you have to put yourself out to people rather than waiting for them to come your way and I’m sure this will help secure the kennels future, alongside the website we hope we are providing whats needed in this profession
Winners since last listed below making it 31 winners in Feb(Total winners 666)
Questhouse Leigh @Monmore.. Questhouse Kylie, Crooked Duke, Wee Bad Boy and Lenn Swartz @Newcastle.. Revengeful Demon x2, Smoking Jim, Smoking John @ Hove.. Pretty Mentor @ Romford.. Quest For Wonder and Moorland Rob @ Belle Vue.. Oxford Don @ Nottingham..Pendle Whojo @ Crayford and Good To Go @ Wimbledon

New Layout
16/02/09 21:37
We shall be changing the lay out of the images within the galleries this week to give more recent pictures and less older pictures, as we add images each month we shall dilute the previous months down to 2 or 3 thus eventually giving us in the region of 30 pictures per page, not only will it avoid slowing the site down but it will keep it much tidier, we will be putting the oldest pictures first leading onto the current crop, i’m sure you’ll enjoy the viewing better this way.
The pups eventually got in the field at the end of last week and boy did they lap it up, to be honest it came at just the right time as they were all getting hyped up and ready to take lumps out of each other, all of them are doing well and could’nt be much happier with them
10 winners this week.. Farahs Paddy and Questhouse Kylie at Newcastle, Vote For Pedro at Belle Vue, Pendle Whojo at Crayford, Ashbys Hawk, Smoking John, Ebony Chaser, Smoking Shady, Smoking Jim and Got Any Gossip all at Hove.
How Much More Can It Stand?
03/02/09 08:02

With the lovely weather that everyone is experiencing, I wonder just how much it is affecting other Rearers what with frozen fields at times, waterlogged at other times and a complete mud heap at all times, to be honest it is a very trying time for rearers and one period that I hope we don’t have to endure for many years to come, it must be a near record for the length of damp weather we have had.
Its at times like this that I hope owners and others, that have not had the pleasure in rearing a pup, appreciate the dedication put into these pups by their respective rearers, although it’s our choice, we still give up a huge chunk of our life and on reading some articles on internet forums I really do wish that some people would experience “The Joys” of rearing pups, one thing I’d guarantee is that they would very quickly see a different side to the one they think is “Oh So Rosy”, anyhow that’s my gripe for the year.
A very happy time for me this week with the news that my very good friend David Miles will be back in the ranks of greyhound ownership, as most will know David was the person responsible for me getting involved in rearing pups, at the time I had never reared a pup albeit I had raced a few at Shawfield but that didn’t worry David, he gave me his full backing and when he decided to call it a day in ownership I vowed that the First pup that I kept, that was of the class he was used to, was going to be given to him by myself, well I’m very happy to say that Charlie Listers recent intake shall be David’s first involvement for a couple of years, her name is Questhouse Em and she is an October 2007 Whelp by Droopys Vieri x Bonjour Baby, she has just had her 3rd sprint trial and clocked 16-43 at Sheffield, Charlie is very happy with her and I really do hope that for David’s sake she goes onto great things, lots of people within this sport have David to thank as he’s put his faith in others including Owen Mckenna and kick started their careers, For as long as I live I shall always be eternally grateful to David and just cannot thank him enough.
It has been a good week for brood Miss Wonderful, Vote For Pedro (Belle Vue) and Good To Go (Wimbledon) both duly obliged, Pedro winning for the second time from 3 races and Good To Go winning at the 2nd time of asking in a great 28-51 with a lovely sectional, both these babies (Aug 07) do not need to improve much to be pushing A1 Class times, hopefully exciting times ahead for these babies and their owners Steven and Karen and Steve.
On the subject of great runs, I really must give special praise AGAIN to Oxford Don at Nottingham, once again this lad pops out in A1 and wins AGAIN, that’s 6 from his last 7 A1’s and I cannot believe he did not get picked as Nottingham’s dog of the month in The Greyhound Star, hopefully he gets a mention next month as the dog, trainer and owners deserve it.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in this months pup pictures, not only has the weather been against us but I’ve just got a new laptop and been trying to work my way around it, also a new camera so hopefully we should get improved pics.
Good To Go
01/02/09 14:00
Looks like the Droopys Kewell x Miss Wonderful litter are starting to shape up nicely. After the success of Vote For Pedro at Belle Vue last week, it was his sisters turn down at Wimbledon. On only her second race Good To Go recorded a blistering 3.88 sectional (which matched the A2 on the night) and led all the way to win in 28.52. A very promising run indeed and like her brother, has plenty more to come.
On the For Sale front, all the Droopys Rosari pups are now sold and there is one dog and one bitch left to sell out of Millies Award. Click Here

Trudging Along
29/01/09 11:10
Its been a pretty quiet week at the kennels with the weather not exactly being condusive to lots of activity but we must struggle along and can only hope that the weather turns soon as the paddocks are in a right mess with the non stop rain thats pounded it, roll on whatever summer we will get.
Rosey(Final Rose) has settled in as if she had been here all her life, food is something she adores and she would gladly eat your hand given half a chance, a very friendly bitch as well and it makes life so much easier when they settle in so quickly.
I have had many people ask who I might go to with her, first thoughts were Larkhill Jo and on paper it makes complete sense but I do also like Maldini and Premier Fantasy.
Sash and Jazz are doing fine with Jazz especially acting like a juvenile delinquent, she takes mad periods wereby she believes she is a pup again, really funny watching her and it does make me happy seeing them so well within themselves, even Angie (Knockeevan Angie) belts around the paddocks and barks at the pups and shes supposed to be retired and taking life easy.
Greyhound Products UK have decided that they would like to join in the ride that we are going to provide for you all this year, being 1 of the very first Greyhound Stores and with hundreds of various ranges I am sure they can cater for all your needs, having used Greyhound Products for Presentation Jackets last year I can honestly vouch for the sheer quality they provide, they also personalised The Emily Wood Memorial Olympic Finalists jackets for me, this seems like no big deal but considering that the semis were on the Saturday Night and the Final on the Thursday, to have 6 Jackets printed up with finalists names and delivered to my door for The Tuesday was, In my opinion, a First Class Service, If you could take a browse around their website which can be found on our home page and don’t be afraid to contact George or Nikki should there be a product you require, please feel free to quote Questhouse Kennels should you be ordering anything.
Winners since last Winners entries on here are, Pick n Micks(Twice), Ashbys Hawk, English Rose, Smoking Shady, Smoking John, Smoking Jim and The Last Baby all at Hove and all Smoking Babys pups, at 18 months old 8 out of the 9 pups at Hove have won a race and they are far more backward than the first litter where, if they can looked after in this early stage I am sure that we will see massive improvement with age.
Oxford Don wins AGAIN at Nottingham, This lad has done fantastic winning 5 out of his last 6 A1’s and beaten a sh-hd in his Open, sterling effort by dog and trainer.
First time winners for Aero Furtado at Harlow and Trejon Scholes at Perry Barr, not the highest grades but hopefully its a launch pad for both these dogs, i’m sure i’ll be posting their names again on here.
Questhouse Misty and Questhouse Kylie(Newcastle) both won as did Vote For Pedro again, once again he came from behind, which is becoming very rare these days as far too many pups(Mines included) seem to down tools if they don’t get things all their own way, Pedro has at least shown that he is willing to knuckle down to the task in hand and 28-40 at Belle Vue in your 3rd ever race is good going.
Special mention must go the final winner, Bonnie Ben who was 4 in October and has ran a staggering 132 races, what makes this stand out is the fact he has won 34 of them(13 being opens) and 33 2nds and 34 3rds, thats 101 times out of 132 that he has been in the 1st three, i’m sure you’ll agree that this a tremendous feat, well done Bennie boy you have been a tremendous credit to everyone associated with you especially Julie Luckhurst and staff who have done a great job with him.

Please note that I have now moved all entries on the subject of Injuries and Remedies to their very own page.
You can access this page by clicking on the VETS CORNER link in the left margin.
It is my intention to use the VETS CORNER page to archive many subjects concerning the care of the racing greyhound.
I hope you find it a useful guidance tool but always remember to take professional advice from a qualified Vet.
Happy reading :)

Quite a week!
18/01/09 17:45
The week started with a phone call from a friend, "Dave, I have heard of a bitch that is for sale and think it will interest you" , before I even asked the name I said "Nooooooooooooooooo, don't do this to me, as I am not really in the market for another brood", anyhow he told me her breeding and my ears pricked up, not very often does breeding like hers come on the market so I just had to speak to the owner, 1 phone call and the bitch was secured and I am very proud to have her in the kennel and she is another useful addition to the kennels collective broods, I will let you visit the broods page to see who she is.. Ha Ha Ha. Thanks to the owners for letting me have her and to the mate who alerted me.
Jazz Hurricane to Westmead Hawk and Questhouse Sash to Ballymac Maeve have both been mated and arrived back home on thursday, both seem fine within themselves and now the fun begins, Jazz has had the experience but poor Sash will soon be wondering what on earth is happening inside her (Well at least we hope so, fingers crossed), I have a really good feeling about Sash.
Questhouse Ellie went to her new home on Friday and quickly made herself at home, I know Harry and Janice will give her a special life and I just pray that Ellie settles in a home enviroment, I will, in all honesty, be shocked if she does'nt, but there will always be a kennel here for her anyhow.
Little Emily had her Microchip and Rabies injection on Saturday and she took it really well, ( I say that as we all know just how big a woos greyhounds can be) she quickly made friends whilst waiting to be seen and found that age old game that dogs have in waiting rooms "sniff as many people as you can and pant and drool all over them" lots of fun, she really is an affectionate dog and when the time comes around for her to go I will be very sad to say goodbye to her but I know that she'll have a fantastic life with Roger and Karin.
There are new videos of all the pups in the Movie page and if you put your speakers on you will get a wee commentary from myself, sorry but I forgot to include the subtitles..lol... We have also included a new piece within the brood pages, you can now see a small video of each brood within their own page and we hope it gives you more of an insight into how each brood looks.
We did promise you that we were looking at evolving this site as each day goes by and I hope you all like what we are currently doing, within four weeks we have had well over 100,000 hits and close on 7,000 visitors.
BTW, when I say we, I am referring to myself and the website designer Dave Yanez who is doing a sterling job, we are both bouncing ideas of each other with the view to making your visits here more enjoyable and we are both pleased at the outcome so far.
Winners this week.... Smoking Shady and The Last Baby at Hove, Quest Daily Dogs at Crayford, Questhouse Chloe at Shawfield, Oxford Don at Nottingham(Again) and finally Vote For Pedro ( Miss Wonderfuls son) at Belle Vue who was having his 1st ever race, really pleased for Steven and Karen and hope many more wins are forthcoming for this lad.
We are currently running an advertisement campaign and should anyone like to advertise their Company, Stud dog or Products, we will happily discuss terms and prices, for one year it can be as little as £100 up to £200, with an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 visitors in the year I feel it could be an opportunity to really showcase your product/business, please use the Contact Page to get in touch with us.

Happy but Sad
11/01/09 22:56

Questhouse Ellie was Speyed on Tuesday and I'm very happy to say that she will be going to her new home at the weekend after she has her stiches removed, I really am pleased for her but at the same time it will be sad as shes been a figure head for the kennels from day 1, 1st pups I had ever reared, she was my 1st ever runner, 1st winner, 1st open winner, 1st Sky winner and my 1st and to date only Track record holder, she really has been a star and its such a pity that we will never see what her pups may have been like, having missed twice I decided that it was'nt meant to be and let her retire to the home nice and young, she will be sadly missed.
Now for some news that will shock a few, I have decided to send Emily (Questhouse Star) to Switzerland to live Roger and Karin who have became very good friends, because of the history behind Emily what with her being the last pup born just before my mother died, the only pup from Savana Highlands and the very close bonds she has with all my family, I just could'nt see myself placing her into kennels for schooling and racing and she'd have just wasted away here, I know most of you will think I am nuts but Its the way I honestly feel and I pray to god that she turns into a champion for Roger and Karin and I know that she will have a special life with them, very soon I will be placing an article by Roger on my blog, I asked him to write a piece on the pups he has had from me as well as his racing at Geldrops etc, when you see the pics of the pups you will soon realise why I have decided to place Emily with them, The picture you see is 1 of theres, he is Talisker Skye who is 1 of Millies Awards pups.
Winners this week.. Belle Vue..Cinamon Sal, Quest For Wonder and Pendle Isis... Hove.. Savana Borders, Ebony Chaser, Babyshambles and Smoking John, Dickos Mark at Sheffield, Aero Rapido at Harlow and Oxford Don at Nottingham(Again).
All the pups are really filling out nicely and apart from 1 pup knocking a toe up, we have been fortunate that the weathers not caused more injuries, always a very stressful time for kennels but we just have to get on with things, there shall be new video footage up by the end of this week of all the pups as well as the broods and I hope that everyone is enjoying the new look site and please feel free to comment or even better join in with an old doggy story etc.
Can I just point out to everyone that very shortly my only E-mail address will be dave@questhousekennels.co.uk , this address is up and running now so please start using this as opposed the others you may have, also take note of the mobile number at Top of each page as this will very shortly be my only mobile number, please add this number to my

All the best to everyone for 2009.

Happy New Year
28/12/08 22:05
Well yet another year passes us by and hopefully 2008 has been good for you all in many different ways and that it carrys on to next year.
In 3 1/2 years we have sent out 600 winners of which 100 have been Open race winners and we are very hopeful of a very fruitful 2009, lovely bred broods that keep us on our toes and keeps those dreams alive that make working such long hours really worthwhile.
We are hoping that readers will get involved in the running of the blog, stories or special features from others can easily be incorporated into the blog and it could give everyone an enjoyable read, I have attatched a true story from 1 of my friends during our Powderhall days and it would be nice to read other such stories in the future.
I will be doing a regular slot on Injuries and Remedies, some will be my own thoughts, or tips, but most will be extracts from others qualified in their field of work, I hope this will evolve into a nice library for others to look up on from time to time, once again if anyone would like to add anything, please do not hesitate in e-mailing me.
I will shortly be having a chat with our New Champion Trainer Mark Wallis and would like questions from yourselves to direct at him, please leave these questions within the comments page, this will be a regular slot with a whole range of different people within our sport and I shall be looking for Questions from yourselves for these people once mentioned.
We finished the week with Foulden Rebel winning twice more making it 3 wins on the trot straight back from her seasonal rest, absolutely chuffed for the bitch and her owners, wins also for Slam Dunk(Harlow), Revengeful Demon(Hove) and Questhouse Leigh who won the Christmas Owners Final on Boxing Day at Monmore, really pleased for Martin(Burt) her trainer who trains the dogs to a tee.

In closing I would like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year when it arrives and hopefully I shall meet up with many of you over the forthcoming 12 months.

Merry Christmas
23/12/08 21:58
On behalf of everyone at the kennels, we would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year when it comes.

Christmas is a time for young ones to enjoy and for parents to take pride in watching their young ones have fun, its also a time that people reflect on the past and remember people that are very dear to them, let them never be forgotten at this time.
Christmas day should have seen new pups being born in the kennels, sadly it appears that Questhouse Ellie has not taken and the thought of naming the pups so easily(Mary, Joseph, Angel etc...lol..) will now be forgotten, its still a time to make a fuss of all the dogs and all the broods and pups will have Christmas Dinner of Chicken and Stuffing, definitely no sprouts as their flatulence can be bad enough without the dreaded sprouts, eat, drink and be merry on this festive day.
The last week has seen winners from Questhouse Chloe(Shawfield), Lenn Swartz(Newcastle), Foulden Rebel(Hove), Shimano Sumo(Henlow), Questhouse Leigh(Monmore), Quest Daily Dogs and Oxford Don twice at Nottingham.
We have Andreas Quest and Lenn Trois running in Opens at Pelaw Grange on Boxing Day and Oxford Don will contest The Stadium Christmas Final at Nottingham, many other runners over the festive period, Good Luck to all their connections.
We are on the lookout for any interesting stories you may have heard or been privvy to within Greyhounds, perhaps you knew of a coup, perhaps you would like to write a small article regarding a favourite dog that raced, I'm sure other readers would enjoy reading stories from the past and you can e-mail me dave@questhousekennels.co.uk with anything of interest, any photos included will be used where appropriate.
As a starter here is a true story from days gone past and attatched is a photo of a Ball Hare meeting at Easington, I am trying to put together a story on Ball Hare Racing for the near future.
Foulden Rebel
19/12/08 18:20
It has been fairtly quiet on the runners front this week.Oxford Don (Larkhill Jo x Knockeevan Angie) won his third A1 on Monday at Nottingham, this lad has searing early pace but finds the 500m just too far but is doing his owner Richard Coleman and trainer Terry Munslow proud. It is only a matter of time before he wins his opens.
Down at Hove his litter sister Foulden Rebel was having her first run back from a seasonal rest last night. Placed stright into a sprint open she fell out of the box but her great early pace got her to the front and she strode home the winner. I am very pleased for her owners The Foulden Racing Club and hope she wins many more opens for them.
(Foulden Rebel wins again! a D1 sprint at Hove...well done :)

Smoking Shady (Droopys Kewell x Smoking Baby) won his race nicely at Hove for owner Mike Perrin and looks to have a lovely future ahead of him. All this litter are very green and whatever they do up to two years old will be a bonus, these pups will find lumps once they find their feet.

I set off for the bright lights of London and Wimbledon Stadium with the task of making the draw for the kennel’s charity raffle, arrived at the train station with ten minutes to spare only to find that the car park was full up. A mad dash down to the town center, dumped the car, ran (sort of!) up the road and got on the platform with a minute to spare. I guess I was a right sight for sore eyes huffing and puffing.
A phone call to Owen at Wimbledon Stadium to double check the raffle drum was in place and to finalise exactly when and where they wanted me, no point leaving things to chance and with everything sorted, I could relax and enjoy the journey.
I arrived at the Hotel that I and many others had used for many years on visiting for the Derby, it has been completely upgraded after its takeover and is now one impressive hotel (Antoinettehotels.com). A bonus of a new bar bistro that is very smart with very attentive and friendly staff, I am already looking forward to my yearly jaunt to WImbledon in the Summer.
I arrived at the track around 6.15pm, after sorting out the raffle tickets into the drum I could relax a little more. David Miles, whom I asked to make the draw arrived with his wife Elle and i caught up on whats been happening with David outside of the dogs, he has missed the social side of the dogs and I intend getting him back involved in a small way this coming year, hopefully with Jim Cremin (who does’nt know yet, but he’d better start saving up lol) and a few other of his friends.
The racing on the night was absolutely superb with special mention to Romeo Maldini’s run, the pace down the back straight was unreal and as he strode out and went further and further clear I honestly thought “the clocks going to go”. This lad is a credit to Dave Firmiger’s dedicated work, great performances from Wee Gangus’s (Rab McNair to others) pup King Edward and Mark Wallis’s Mountjoy Ruby to name but two.
The final was fantastic with Meenala Amy rocketing from the boxes, very quickly pursued by Droopys Quinta, the bend approached. Amy was having none of it, and made the Oaks winning move in sweeping down on the bend, with this Quinta moved off the bend creating carnage and Amy set sail for home down the back straight, would five lengths be enough? YES it would be and hanging on for grim death she passed the post in first place to the great joy of Kim (trainer) Chris (partner and assistant), Richie and the rest of the owners, a very big well done to them all on a fantastic achievement by Amy and her handlers.
The whole meeting was a success and very nice to see so many smiling faces at a dog track, obviously not all doom and gloom as some would have us believe, think positive and we will be alright.
The main reason for my visiting Wimbledon was obviously the raffle. I am very grateful to Wimbledon for the use of their track and to Sky for allowing me precious air time TV coverage, the winning ticket was number 0472 which belonged to Pamela Francis from Wales.
Pam had at one time been a member of a little puppy syndicate I had put together and I know that she will look after this little girl, the amount raised for Macmillan Cancer Support was £4700 to which they will be eternally grateful. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate the support of the greyhound fraternity, you truly are a wonderful bunch of people and I am really proud to be involved in this sport.
If ever anyone would like to chat to someone about Cancer and what may be available, I am only too happy to chat, if it helps you, please ring 01289 386766 or contact Macmillan at www.macmillan.org.uk
Hopefully I will have news shortly about the 2009 benefit meeting, I shall be having initial talks with a stadium and you will hear developments here first.

Welcome to my Blog
12/12/08 11:44
Firstly a warm welcome to everyone.
I aim to keep you updated and enthralled enough to keep coming back for more. I have many things lined up that will require your assistance so please keep popping in to see what is happening.
I have just had my website completely revamped and thanks to David Yanez for his fantastic work, between us we aim to take the site to another level throughout the year.
Please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions about the site, good or bad and we will endeavour to incorporate new ideas as they come.
What has happened?
2008 is a year I will not forget in a hurry, sadly it was largely for the wrong reasons, on a personal front myself and my family had to go through the pain of watching my mother die of cancer. It was an especially trying time for myself and my father as we nursed her through the disease at home until she passed away.
A huge hole has been left in the kennels and it has been hard to keep motivated and if i’m truly honest, I’ve felt like calling it a day on many occassions.
However by launching my new website, buying up some superbly bred bitch pups (future broods), and my mother always telling me never to give up I hope you can see i will be giving it my all in 2009.
Since last year we have added a few nice bitches to the breeding paddocks, they are Jazz Hurricane, Questhouse Lucy, Baby Marge and Droopys Rosari, these will be complimented by the earlier mentioned bitch puppies out of Westmead Hawk x Droopys Charlize and Droopys Shearer x Jewelinthesand.
Valentia Mist and Knockeevan Angie were retired this year and both are enjoying life at the kennels. (Misty is a house pet but Angie is kenneled as they do not get on one bit!)
The kennel has bred over 30 Open Race wins and 150 individual wins in 2008 and we will be striving to increase that score dramatically in 2009 and repeat our Group Race success from before.
We had a fantastic night of racing at Hove in August, with all proceeds going to The Macmillan Cancer Support Charity, please check out the galleries page to view the Hove Memorial Night photos.
